When a debilitating back injury and subsequent surgery brought Kolten French’s only creative outlet, skateboarding to a screeching halt, he was forced to cope and find a new way to express his creativity. Enter his love for art. French is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work ranges from gritty, realistic carvings to functional artwork to abstract woodcuts and back again. Continually inspired by music, aging architecture, random skate spots and travel, Kolten’s work is an attempt to portray his interests through his own lens. Though only working as a professional artist for 6 years, French has acclaimed much success, showing his work all over the country, with Ewkuks and Thinkspace Galleries as well as Art Basel. French is better known as the co-founder of Mindful Murals with his wife, where together they have painted over 300 community murals for schools and public spaces in their home of Southern California.
