2SHAE does it again with Dream Chasers, a solo exhibition showcasing his one of a kind abstract pills coexisting with black and white photos of iconic and loved celebrities that have impacted our lives in one way or another. 2SHAE doesn’t just select any celebrity with clout to be parts of his works, all of the people 2SHAE has picked has resonated with him or someone he knows. Dream Chasers is a nod to all the people we know who have fallen while chasing the dream. To the ones you had big plans with, but weren’t able to ever start, or ever finish. It’s for the ones that have flown to close to the sun while living their dreams.

For as long as 2SHAE can remember, addiction has always played an impactful role in his life, affecting how he perceived people and the world. This allowed him to see beyond the addiction and see the human beneath the addiction struggling with overwhelming pain. These people were self-medicating to numb that pain; they no longer wanted to hurt. However, the abusive seductress of addiction will always rear its ugly head once the numbness wears off. And so, the cliché goes – hurt people hurt people.
In this collection of new works by 2SHAE, a new class of icons are showcased. Amongst these subjects is a shared common theme of immense pain that manifested itself as addiction – which always starts as a solution from your problems that always consumes the person till all that is left is remnants of what was once their family, friends, and careers. Addiction is a son of a bitch. It’s a manipulator. It’s conniving. It’s witty. It’s attractive. But most of all, it’s a self-destructive monster that broods inside all of us, choosing to show its face at our most vulnerable moments. Whether it be drugs, alcohol, exercise, food, money, or whatever you use to numb yourself from your traumas; you are not alone.
2SHAE showcases his signature bright vivid pill patterns to show the face of addiction and what it’s like to carry those burdens. His personification of addiction surrounds, engulfs, and eventually wraps around every aspect of the subject’s life. It’s over their shoulder, creeping, especially during the happy smiling moments.

2SHAE Solo Exhibition: Pill POP’n CULTURE
Opening Reception - Saturday, October 13th at 8pm
Pill POP’n CULTURE brings a new collection of artworks from 2SHAE, highlighting the hold addiction has over its victims. A visual representation of addiction, 2SHAE’s faceless “Pillhead” character is often depicted lurking behind his prey wearing white cartoon gloves with a long black and wiry-haired tail wrapped in bandages. Like a siren with his river of pills, Pillhead seduces his unsuspecting victims with an infinite sea of prescription bliss. The vivid artwork contrasted with the black and white photography perfectly captures the void left and filled by these pastel pills. The bold pieces allow you to feel the weight of addiction pulling at the beloved icons of today’s popular culture.
Born in West Los Angeles in 1977, 2SHAE was born to two drug addicts who were addicted to heroin and prescription pills. He bounced back-and-forth between his two grandmothers who raised him and prepared him for life.
After attending Laguna College of Art and Design, 2SHAE worked as the Lead Art Director for West Coast Customs for over a decade. In 2012, he set out on his own to concentrate on his personal work. 2SHAE’s characteristic style of dynamic patterns and compositions along with bold gesture give the work an alluring energy. With focus, dedication, and talent, his career is rapidly thriving. 2SHAE now works full times in the studio on his personal artwork and commissions – as well as recently finalizing a residency at The Seventh Letter.
